ellington South Coast Clean-upWell the weather is hardly a window but scouts, Volunteer Fitness, Vic Uni students and others are out at Lyall Bay already! The BBQ is being set up under cover as we speak. Where there is a will there is a way! That's community for you.Wellington South Coast Clean-upI think they call this a weather window!Wellington South Coast Clean-upWell - good morning everyone! Ie are looking forward to it. We've decided this, after monitoring the hourly forecasts and rain radars over the last days and looking at what's in store. The wind is set to drop with none or light rain for the main part of the day. So actually not too bad! The volunteers have put alot of time into arranging this already. And - we think if the Paralympians can inspire us with what they do we should be able to do this. We've done it in this weather before and its stll been alot of fun! We encourage you to come and show your love for our coast, even in one of its less sunny moods, on this International Coastal Cleanup Day! W
rap up for the weather...please remember to bring your own gloves, e.g. garden ones, so we can cut down on our waste. We look forward to catching up. Together we're gonna give our south coast it's spring clean. Wellington South Coast Clean-upRemember to check here in the morning to see if it's on. Maybe that wind will blow all the rain away. ☺Wellington South Coast Clean-upAt this stage we are staying optimistic we'll have a weather window tomorrow. We are watching the weather like hawks. Past experience has shown that it takes alot to put us all off! We can still get the job done and have fun with showers and wind...so we shall see...watch this space. This event is a spring clean we can do together and to also a chance to celebrate the collective effort that happens during the year. /groups/5828147117/Wellington South Coast Clean-upNIWA (the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research) have been hosting the clean up at the Lyall Bay East section for the last 5 years. During this time they have done a side project of collecting and counting cigarette butts found at their particular site. There are 100's of them every year! Cigarette butts are full of toxic chemicals, and they take years to break down. Imagine what this is doing to our local sealife! We'll be counting cigarette butts at lots of places along the coast this year to boost the discussion.
