Ewbank is a brand of mechanical carpet sweepers sold in the United Kingdom since the 19th century. Originally owned by Entwisle and Kenyon Ltd, it is now owned by Earlex Ltd. Founded in Accrington, Lancashire, the company has its origins in a 1864 company founded by John Ramsbottom and George Hacking, which made water meters.[1] They were joined by John Haworth, James Entwisle, and James Kenyon, and when the founders retired the company was renamed Entwisle and Kenyon Limited. Entwisle & Kenyon started making washing machines around 1875, and also manufactured mangles.[2] While one of the company's representatives, Richard Walter Kenyon, was in the United States in 1882 to source wooden blocks for mangles, he visited a carpet sweeper factory in Chicago, and saw the potential for the product, which was already popular in the US, in the UK.[2] Kenyon designed the first Ewbank branded carpet sweeper, which went on sale in 1889.[2] It became the most popular product of its type in Britain, where carpet sweeping became known as "ewbanking".

Sweepers were produced in several models including 'Standard', 'Parlour Queen', and even miniature versions for children. Ewbank became a major manufacturer of floor-care products after World War II, including carpet shampooers, selling both in the UK and via export internationally.[4] Originally using metal casing, the sweepers were made from Novodur in the mid-1970s. That's right it sure is a great little clean upper. I use it every day in my kitchen and family room and it picks up every thing.from hard floors to carpet this little vacuum dose it all. This is so handy to have for the quick pick ups! Easy to handle and light weight. By far this little vacuum is the best one I have used. I have used Bissell, the one with Joy's name, and Shark! Ran each one on the same job to compare! None of them have the suction to clean power that this little baby has! Quick and easy to use! The unit came with scratches, Not preferred, however, I was more interested in the cleaning power so I gave it a go! The floor attachment worked great once and then was useless. could not find a quick easy way to get it replaced. This is my only disappointment with this unit! I would prefer the head be a powered brush head and an easier way to contact the manufacturer when needed. I use this 2-3 times a day as I have dogs! I bought this for my daughter who is in college, I got her the mod one, She loves it.

we tested it in my kitchen, which I vacuum everyday sometimes twice a day! Sucked up everything, got into the corners without a problem. For the money I paid, this vacuum cannot be beat. You need to empty everytime you use because it picks up even dust particles which astounds me. Purchased this for my daughter's first dorm room. It is perfect as a small upright but she can also detach to use as a hand vac for late night snacking in bed! The print is darling and she loves it! Highly recommend for a small apartment or dorm! I wanted a small lightweight vacuum to use on my mattress and upholstery only. I wanted one with a small hose with the tools this came with. This one has everything you could ask for. I love the ease with which I can empty the cup and two filters so if one is drying after washing it, the other is ready to use. I love the double filtrations system and I love the 60-ish "flower power" design since I'm from that era & will be mostly using this vacuum in my bedroom.
