I'm debating between a Miele and a Rainbow. Over the years, I must've spent thousands on buying cheaper vacuums that give out after two or three years. So I decided to get a vacuum that will last at least a decade (ostensibly~). I'm looking at Miele because it's supposed to be very quiet, long-lasting and great for picking up pet hair. The model I'm looking at is good for both carpet and hardwoods. Rainbow: I've used my friend's 20+ yr. old Rainbow and it's incredible. I'd never seen a vacuum clean as well. It cleaned things I didn't even know were dirty! I've been checking on eBay and found several refurbished older Rainbows within my price range.
